It is indeed possible to disable the WebKitBrowser object from the QWebView. The method is called QWebView::setOverrideMode() with one of the values listed in the Qt documentation. In your case, you would call:
myWebView->setOverrideMode(QWebPage::Offscreen);
You can choose to do this for a specific url:
