tinc is a free and open-source Virtual Private Network daemon capable of creating a VPN between hosts on the web by taking advantage of tunneling and encryption. It can compress traffic using zlib and LZO as well as encrypt it using LibreSSL and OpenSSL so that it doesn't get mixed up with sequence numbers and message authentication codes.
Automatic full mesh routing is supported so that VPN traffic is always sent to the destination directly when this is possible, without the need of resorting to multiple hops. Peers can communicate directly thanks to NAT traversal, provided that there's at least one node in the VPN which permits incoming connections on a public IP address, whether it's static or dynamic.
To be able to add more nodes to the VPN, it's only necessary to create and add other configuration files. This means that you don't have to start new daemons or customize settings for new devices or network adapters. Multiple Ethernet segments can be bridged to work as one, thus making it possible to launch games and apps that typically work only in a local network over the web.
In addition to Windows, tinc can be installed on FreeBSD, Linux, OpenBSD, Mac OS X, NetBSD, and Solaris. IPv6 networks are supported. User documentation is available on the developer's website.

Tinc 1.0.20 [Mac/Win] [March-2022]

The tinc program is a simple but powerful VPN daemon which simplifies the task of creating a Virtual Private Network.
It creates a virtual interface of any type capable of forwarding IP packets between a number of hosts on a VPN which is in turn connected to any other host on the Internet through a plain Internet Protocol network. It can be configured to transparently create and maintain stateful tunnels or it can be used as a distributed OpenVPN server (one server per host). It can also be used as a distributed OpenConnect server (one server per host) and can be used for IPsec tunnels between hosts or as a OpenVPN concentrator.
It can be integrated easily into networking daemons such as IPtables, NAT, and SCTP proxies. It supports IPv6 and IPv4 mixed networks. It supports protocols other than TCP/IP; in fact, to use tinc you don’t even need to specify an IP stack or support any protocol at all.
tinc has an easy-to-use command-line interface and it can be written to run as a daemon using the Unix init system. It doesn’t impose any architecture- or API-specific requirements on the code written for it and it can use any program that speaks an IP protocol.
Features:
– It creates and maintains stateful tunnels.
– It can be configured to transparently create and maintain stateless tunnels.
– It can be configured to act as an OpenVPN concentrator or a distributed OpenConnect server.
– IPv6 support.
– Advanced user interface.
– Security: IPsec, SSL/TLS, or OpenVPN.
– IPv4/IPv6 mixed networks.
– IPv4/IPv6 mixed clients.
– IPv4/IPv6 mixed servers.

What’s New in the Tinc?

The availability of stable, free and open-source Virtual Private Network (VPN) software has made it possible for people to embrace the wide range of advantages offered by a VPN. Often used to provide confidentiality and privacy on the Internet, it can also be employed to improve the security of web applications, encrypt remote servers, and act as a pseudo-local network for securely connecting multiple personal computers (PCs). It also helps to make money on the Internet by hiding the geographical location of users and companies, regardless of the type of service or product.
The technology also has its drawbacks. Each VPN device that you use can be a single point of failure, which can give an attacker the upper hand over you. There are also a number of free and open-source VPN packages, but they can also hinder a user’s privacy if their config files aren’t properly scanned.
tinc is the only open-source VPN software with a proven track record, and with its intelligent and well-structured design, it manages to successfully compete with popular commercial solutions. It does not come with any major limitations, with no requirement to have root access, and it creates no security issues when used in an authorized manner.
tinc VPN works out of the box with both Windows and Linux/Unix users. Though for ease of use, it’s recommended that you use FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD or other similar operating system. In addition, whenever possible, it is recommended that you deploy it on a 64-bit compatible kernel.
tinc VPN takes the greatest advantage of the increasing popularity of the open-source operating system Linux, and the wide range of applications and sites available are a testament to this. It makes it easy for users to install and configure tinc VPN, and with its friendly, straightforward GUI interface, it isn’t hard to understand or get to know.
What’s more, the superb reliability of tinc VPN ensures that it can be used as a central point of control for remote servers. With the increasing sophistication of various web applications, it’s an essential and required tool to ensure that the security of your data and services is top-notch. It’s used to link diverse kinds of servers, including web applications, webmail and file sharing, to the Internet, without compromising on security.
Also, unlike other VPN software solutions, tinc VPN does not require root privileges. This makes it much simpler to install and use, which is particularly helpful if you’re sharing your Internet connection with a limited number of people.
